Mark 15:28

“And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors” is the reading of the great majority of Greek manuscripts, and of the Old Latin, the Peshitta, the Vulgate, the Gothic, and the Bohairic. Eusebius gave it a section of its own in his canons of the Gospels. Burgon found a Gospel book at Paris whose reading directions say to skip this verse in the lessons for the Passion, which explains why a few old copies lack it.

Church Fathers

  • Eusebius of Caesarea Canons of the Gospels, Mark section 216 · c. AD 325
His canons give the verse a section of its own, “the weightiest sanction that Father had it in his power to give to words of Scripture,” as Burgon says.
